Special Guest

Photobucket

We had a special guest while we were up taking some pics. A good friend of mine needed some more pics of her sweet daughter in her blessing dress with her cute homemade headband and her little crochet flower slippers. So sweet. We were able to get a few bu felt so bad becuase it was windy and cold and did not want baby girl out there for vey long. I ran a vintage edit on these and love it.

Here they are on the girls, excuse these pics they are not the best, it was super windy and thought I would have good lighting but should have waited another half hour or so. Played around with some editing stuff that is why they are all a little different. But you get the idea of how adorabl the dresses turned out.

Shirt Dress Tutorial

Photobucket

For Easter this year I wanted something different that I couldnt just go pickup at the store and my girls are getting to be in two different age sizes so it is getting harder to coordinate outfits. I have been seeing lots of t shirt dress tutorials and thought I would give it a whirl. Here is how I did min.

Originally I wanted yellow/white/ and grey color scheme but when I went to get fabric I ended up with a green/white/ and grey scheme. I just bougt a yard of each fabric at a total cost of $23 I also purchase the two white shirts for $3 each and the little grey dress we already had it was just getting a little short.

When I got home I went to cutting fabric for the layers of ruffles. I decided how big I wanted the ruffles they are six inches wide which allowed for hemming and such so the ruffles were actually 4 inches wide, and then did the length of the fabric long ways twice for each row of ruffle.

Next I needed extra fabric to attache the ruffles to to then attache to the shirt/dress. jersey fabric works the best and I was in luck I had two mod bod T with lace on the bottom that were getting armpit stains so we trimme them off the extra length I wanted for the dress. The lace adds an extra layer which is fun too.

Then I attached the two strips of fabric together to make one rufle. Hemmed it up and then did a long stich on it to later gather it. I do not have a gather pedal on my machine. Then I gather the ruffle up and attached it to the jersey shirt.

Repeat that step two more times and you are ready to attach the whole thng to the bottom of the shirt/dress and Voila you are done. I did add a fun flower embelishment to the dresses and made headbands to match.

Headband Tutorial

Photobucket
1: Pick out your Fabric, I was making this for my cute niece who is getting baptised in a few weeks so I went with a white palette. I like to work in odd numbers so I picked three fabrics I knew worked well (from left tro right: jersey knit, silk, cotton)
2: Pick out your flower style. For the jersey I cut circles all the same size and made a puffy flower. For the silk I cut circles all different sizes so I could have one big and one small, then i just burn the edges slightly to seal the cut edges and to give it a fun shape and topped with a pearl. For the Cotton it is easier t to a rooled rope flower so i did a big and a small.
3: Next is just to arrange the flowers how you like them. I ended up not using one of the jersey puff flowers it ws too much.
4: Tried it on one of mt girls to make sure I liked how it laid on her head. and Voila Headband done.

The Paleo Way

So, the Hubster Dr. B ran across and interesting cookbook the other day. The whole idea behind it is to eat non processed foods kind of the way our ancestors did (hince Paleo like hunter gatherer) No I am not in my loin cloth cooking it up over my fire pit, but the concept is simple. So we are testing it out. Testing to see how it tastes, cost effectiveness, cooking/prep time, if the kids will eat it etc. We started last night. What I love about it is that it is comfort food, made healthy and easy. I grew up on Meatloaf so I was excitd when the meal plan suggested Meatloaf for Sunday dinner. The recipe is just about the same but instead of bread crumbs we substituted almond meal and instead of the sodium packed Lipton Onion seasonig mix I would throw in, we mixed in our own herbs and spices. There was really no complaints (excpet for Syd who cannot stand to eat ground beef for some reason never really liked it but she still ate it.) I loved that it was sper moist, made a ton, was filling, and had great flavor. We topped it off with a side salad (not out of a bag but fresh ingredients) and a homemade lemon vinagrette. On Saturday he day before we made our meal plan for the week and our grocery store list. Loved that it was so easy and when we got to the store we did not have to go down every sile to shop we stuck to the perameter of the store mostly out of the produce and meat departments. The best part is that I spent less on groceries for a week with this list than I would have just grabbing what I had coupons for, which lets be honest most coupons have little nutritional value, chips, soda, crakcers, cereal. Later Sunday we prepped some for the next day and made a yummy tail mix for the kids snack at school and for at home too. We just added all our favorte nuts and dried fruit and had fun making our own shredded coconut (when we looked at the coconut in the store the ingredients were scary not even sure if coconut was an ingredient (this actuall did not take very long thanks to our juicer) Here are some pics of our lovely meal last night and our healthy snack for today.

You will have to excuse me for a while if all you see lately are food posts. Just really wanted to show people it is easy to eat healthy.

24 hour remedy

As promised here is my remedy for fighting off cold and flu symptoms and getting myself back my feet in 24 hours. First and always first I will take a trip to see my Chiropractor for an adjusment. Not only will my achy muscles and stiff neck feel better but studies show that an adjustment will help boost your immune system. In the mornng I use Life Force International's Body Balance as a daily supplement and when feeling a cold or flu coming on I double up on my intake. Also for that scratchy/itcy/burning throat and or ears I gurggle a little Silver Biotics three times a day or put few drops in my ears. It will clear up any infection that I may have in there, it is a natural antibiotic. Next up to boost my immune system and give me some much added vitamins and my H20 intake I will drink Emergen- C. Also lots and lots of rest and recovery and VOILA 100% better the nex day. The best part, no awful side effects and no perscriptions.

Family Shoot

Photobucket

My little bro and his family came out to visit after Christmas. Pretty sure they were hoping for some snow to let th boys romp around in but there was no such thing this year. Lucky for us though we grabbed the good weather and headed outside for these pics. During and even After I was not sure how they wer going to turn out. Lots of different ages here, different attitudes and personalities, but after getting them up on the computer and doing a little cropping I really love how they turned out. Love my bro and his cute little fam. It was nice to have some boys in the house.

Newborn Shoot

Photobucket

I was super lucky to have the chance to take some pics of this new little guy. A whole week new to be exact. He was super fun and cozy and cudly. His sisters were very curious as to why I had a heater going, why baby brother had no clothes on, why I had my camera in his face etc. They were super good helpers espcially when it came time to grab a diaper, binky, hats, props etc. So much fun. After coming home I told my hubby that if I could just do newborn shoots it would be heaven. They take direction the best (mostly becuase they are so sleepy they could care less what you do to them), they are so pure and innocent and I get to capture it. Love it.

I am only writing on one blog now so for family and friends and clients I apologise to have it all on here but that would be nelles nonsense. Warning this post may be long and sad so skip if you would like. I just wanted to jot down some of the experiences we had gone through to not only have a record of it but also in hopes that maybe it will help someone else who may be going through the same thing.

It is amazing how many people this does happen to, not sure why there is no real written support about it exept that it may be toooo personal for people to write about. I will try to make this short as I have plans in the works to write in a bigger format.

We found out we were going to have a baby in May of 2011. It was around the same time London was getting baptized. We could not be happier and things were going according to plan. Things were going great. I have to admit that I am a prego rockstar. I had my initial apt and bloodwork at 8 wks everything looked great. Went at 12 wks and heard the hearbeat things were great. Went again at 16 wks and heard the heartbeat again weight was good and I was feeling good except for being tired which for me was still in my normal range. Somewhere between 16 wks and 20wks something happened that was not according to my plan.

I had been having feelings that maybe this was not going to happen you know that little voice. I had not been gaining weight like I normally do but I just attributed that to being a little more food wise and I had been working out before and during this pregnancy where before I was young and lazy. We decided to go away for the weekend and before we left B had asked if I wanted to run up to the hospital to have an ultrasound and I said no, if something was wrong I would know. But i think I did know and just did not want to know. So we headed out of town for a fun weekend with family on the mountain in fact the pic above is from that weekend with my lil sis it is the only prego pic i have. The next day was Sunday and during the announcements in church they had announced the funeral services for an angel baby. A warm tingling and a calm understanding came over me that I would too be experiencing what this young mother had.

We went home from church and I told be that I was pretty sure our baby would not make it here to the earth. I had a strong feeling that our baby needed to come and gain the physical body that I was allowed to provide for him and that he would soon return home to heaven. There was a strong understanding in his eyes when I told him and he simply gave me a hug and suggested I rest for the day. As I did I prayed to know what all these feelings meant. Little did I know that two days later I would not here or see a heartbeat on the ultrasound machine. I had to make a decision about what to do.

Brandon rearanged his schedule of patients to meet me at the hospital to deliver our baby. At the time we did not know if we would be having a boy or a girll. After I delivered and it was announced that it was a boy I turned to B and our hearts sank together. I do not know if it would have been any easier if it was a girl. I will not go into details of all that we experienced during the time we were waiting to deliver and after even weeks after but I do know that my prayers were answered and we definately had angels among us during that time. I am so grateful for a gospel that had a plan of where we came from, who we are, and where we are going. I am grateful for a gospel that alows us to pray to our Father in Heaven and feel of his love and spirit through sweet moments of answered prayers. I am grateful for a gospel that believes in Jesus Christ my savior. I am grateful that becuase of his atonement and sacrifice I know that I am not alone even in my sorrow, sadness, gladdness and joy he understands how it feels to love and to loose. I am grateful for all the family and freinds who helped during this time. I am grateful for my three beautiful girls who still have a hard time understanding why they could not see him. They know and I know that we will see him again. That he did come to gain his perfect little body and return home to do a much greater work. Although it is hard, very hard some day to see the eternal perspective of it I am greateful for the knowledge that I wll see him again someday.

Thanks for letting me write this. I could not tell the whole story as it would have taken too long. I could not explain many of the great blessings we recieved at this time because they are still toooo personal but in time.
